COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIES FOR A CHANGING WORLD
ABOUT ME

I am a communications professional with more than 17 years of experience writing and editing features, online copy and marketing collateral. I first started writing news features when I was 15, writing for The Birmingham News Teen Board in Birmingham, Alabama. These early days exploring the newsroom, and the people I met there, set me on the path to newspaper writing. I started my career as a features editor and reporter for The Selma Times-Journal and Montgomery Advertiser. I later moved into the world of nonprofits, serving in a variety of communications and media relations positions. I have more than a decade of experience in communications for higher education, holding positions at the University of Alabama, UCLA and Art Center College of Design. My positions there have included print and online communications specializing in alumni relations, development, marketing and general college communications.

As editor of online communications for Art Center, I helped conceive and implement the the college’s online and social media communications strategy. During my time here, our website has received an honorary Webby Award, and a year after I began the college’s social media communications, we were named #33 among the “Top 100 Social Media Colleges” by StudentAdvisor.com, a subsidiary of The Washington Post.

After nearly 12 years in Los Angeles, I returned to my hometown of Birmingham, Ala., where I’m enjoying learning the world of corporate communications for a financial institution. You can read more about my professional experience on LinkedIn.

In my spare time, I enjoy photography.
